The general aim of the course is to provide military officers, including operators and military lawyers, as well as civilians, with the opportunity to learn how to behave, in accordance with the principles and rules of the Laws of Armed Conflict (LOAC).
At the end of the course, participants attain a sound knowledge of the principles and rules of LOAC and are able to apply these in a practical manner in a range of operational scenarios.
The course is designed for officers, military lawyers and other categories of military personnel who have a direct professional interest in or obligation related to the application of the LOAC, however participation is also welcome from government officials, academics and students interested in this subject. The course programme has recently been updated to include greater consideration of the practical application of LOAC in the contemporary operating environment.

- Conduct of Hostilities,
- Means of warfare,
- Methods of Warfare,
- Legal Frae work for Non-international armed conflict,

- Belligerent Occupation,
- The role of organizations involved in Humanitarian Law,
- Detention Operations,
- Legal Framework for Peace Support Operations,
- Criminal Responsibility,
- Training of LOAC
This two week course is held five times a year and it is conducted in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese and Russian.
Course fee: € 1500
The Course fee covers all tuition, teaching materials, lunch and refreshments on all working days, two course receptions, a diploma, course photograph and Institute plaque. Transfers to/from Nice airport on the basis of a shared shuttle service are also included in the course fee. Whilst at the Institute, participants have access to free internet and wifi facilities.
