Workshop on IHL and Human Rights for Members of the Armed Forces and Governmental Officials of Montenegro

The Institute is coducting a thematic workshop on "IHL and  Human Rights for Members of the Armed Forces and Governmental Officials of Montenegro" from 9 to 12 November 2015.

The workshop, which will take place at the Ministry of Defence in Podgorica, has been organized with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and with the cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro and OSCE.

The main objectve of the workshop is to increase the knowledge and skills of government officials and members of the armed forces of Montenegro involved in the application of human rights and humanitarian law. Special attention will be paid to burning issues such as the classification of armed conflicts and the contemporary challenges of IHL and human rights; the principles and rules of naval warfare and law-enforcement activities at sea; detention issues in military operations and the interplay between IHL and human rights; the protection of human rights in the fight against the smuggling of human beings at sea.
