17th Course on Internal Displacement
Sanremo, 25 – 29 November 2019
The course on the Law on Internal Displacement is organized by the International Institute for Humanitarian Law in cooperation with the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons
The course is designed for government officials and NGOs personnel responsible for and dealing with IDPs issues. The course last five days and is conducted in English. This course responds to the increasing demand for up-to-date information on and understanding of internal displacement and the applicable law. It includes lectures, case studies, simulations, and practical exercises led by experts. Objectives of the course are:
- Increase the participants’ understanding of the international norms under-pinning the protection of internally displaced persons;
- Encourage the sharing of experiences among the participants regarding international implementation and monitoring mechanisms;
- Promote the use and implementation of the Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement;
- And encourage governments to establish or improve existing legislation and policies on the protection of internally displaced persons.
At the end of the course the participants should be able to identify the IDPs’ rights and the corresponding obligations that governments and other involved actors have; identify policy needs and gaps for an appropriate IDPs response; propose national mechanisms both for implementing the protection of IDPs and for monitoring; and draw up a national action plan for legislation and policy implementation according to the national framework.
All participants attending the course in full will receive the corresponding certificate.
