The course will use the Operational Planning Process (OLPP) as a handrail for training on the inclusion of legal considerations into that process.
Areas to be covered include:
- Mission Analysis looking at the strategic and operational legal environment;
- COA Development and translation of objectives into actions;
- Legal aspects of the Joint Action Model;
- Management of Effects;
- Command Responsibility and Accountability.
The target audience is both operators and legal advisers involved or likely to be involved in planning at the operational level. For legal advisers it will give some doctrinal training of the planning process and for operators a greater insight into the impact of legal considerations. The course would also be valuable for those active in the IHL field for who would benefit from an insight into how international law impacts the planning and conduct of operations and how those processes work.
