Sanremo Round Table

Since its foundation, the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, in the context of its institutional and statutory objectives of training, research and dissemination of the provisions in force in the various areas of international humanitarian law, has organized an annual September Round Table on Current Issues of International Humanitarian Law which is regularly held in Sanremo.

The 49th Sanremo Round Table on Current Issues of IHL
will focus on

"The New Character of Warfare and International Humanitarian Law:
adapting to Complexity and Emerging Challenges"

(tentative title)

This year, the flagship event of the Institute will be held at Villa Ormond, Sanremo (Italy), on 9-11 September in a hybrid format, with live broadcasting online.

To reach the widest possible audience and foster active participation, the Sanremo Institute will offer simultaneous translation services for all attendees, both in person and online, in the following languages:
English-FrenchFrench-EnglishEnglish-ArabicArabic-EnglishFrench-Arabic, and Arabic-French.

This edition of the Round Table, as usual featuring high-level international experts and practitioners from all over the world, will examine the challenges arising from the combination of traditional and modern methods of warfare in international and non-international armed conflicts. The discussions will delve into the necessity for IHL to keep pace with these dynamic operational environments through doctrinal and procedural innovations, the adaptation of human and technological capabilities, and a renewed commitment to integrating legal, ethical and operational considerations into every stage of military training and practice.
