These curricula focus on the key elements of refugee protection, ranging from the legal framework to refugee participation and solutions. It covers the principles, objectives and programme of action set by the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and allows participants to strengthen their teaching skills and capacity to develop training modules through sessions devoted to instructional design and learning methodologies (e.g. needs assessments, and identification of approaches, objectives, methodologies, and evaluations).

The Course is organised by the International Migration Law and Legal Affairs Department (IML) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in cooperation with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL). The five-day Course on International Migration Law (IML) is designed for government officials, academia, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as members of the civil society. It will focus on the international legal framework governing migration, including the rights and responsibilities of States and migrants. The key objective of this Course is to raise the awareness of government officials and those working in the migration context of the importance of international legal instruments in the management of migration.

Cette édition du cours sur le droits des migrants, organisé en partenariat avec l’Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, est destiné aux représentants des autorités gouvernementales, des institutions de l’état de droit, aux universitaires et aux représentants d’organisations internationales et des organisations non-gouvernementales impliqués dans la protection des droits des migrants.

The Course addresses the key aspects of the international protection of refugee as well as refugee-related issues, such as gender-based violence, and the protection of stateless and internally displaced persons. The Course has been specifically designed for Post-Graduate students and PhD candidates with a background in International Law, and a strong interest in the topic.

The course aims to increase the knowledge and skills of government officials involved in the formulation and the application of legislation and policies affecting people in need of protection, and who have only a basic knowledge of International Refugee Law. They are also open to those interested from civil society, particularly those in advocacy for the protection of forcibly uprooted people.

The Course presents the key elements for supporting the transformation of policies, services and public perceptions of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless people and migrants. The Course assesses challenges and opportunities related to given protection situations and identifies relevant stakeholders towards which advocacy interventions can be addressed.

The Course highlights the principles making multimedia communication, journalism and information campaigns key tools for positively shaping perceptions, attitudes and policies towards refugees and other people in need of protection. It is developed primarily to benefit media, communication and press officers, journalists, editors, web managers and other persons involved in reporting issues related to refugees.

The Course analyses the causes and impacts of statelessness, the overview of stateless populations around the world, including stateless children, and the interrelation between statelessness and forced displacement. It aims also at promoting the use and the implementation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Global Action Plan to End Statelessness as part of the #IBelong Campaign.

El curso ofrece un análisis sobre los elementos claves que componen el Derecho Internacional de las personas refugiadas, así como el marco jurídico regional establecido por la Declaración de Cartagena de 1984 y el Sistema Interamericano de Protección de los Derechos Humanos. El curso está diseñado para oficiales de gobierno u otras autoridades estatales, y representantes de la sociedad civil que trabajan en el ámbito de protección y defensa de los derechos de las personas refugiadas en América Latina.
