At the operational and strategic levels, the law has a significant impact on the planning and conduct of the full spectrum of military operations. This course will examine this in the context of the planning and execution at the operational level using operational planning and management doctrine to explore the themes. It will consider broader international law considerations which impact on operations as well as IHL.

These curricula focus on the key elements of refugee protection, ranging from the legal framework to refugee participation and solutions. It covers the principles, objectives and programme of action set by the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and allows participants to strengthen their teaching skills and capacity to develop training modules through sessions devoted to instructional design and learning methodologies (e.g. needs assessments, and identification of approaches, objectives, methodologies, and evaluations).

The Course is organised by the International Migration Law and Legal Affairs Department (IML) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in cooperation with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL). The five-day Course on International Migration Law (IML) is designed for government officials, academia, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as members of the civil society. It will focus on the international legal framework governing migration, including the rights and responsibilities of States and migrants. The key objective of this Course is to raise the awareness of government officials and those working in the migration context of the importance of international legal instruments in the management of migration.

The aim of this course is to prepare civilian and military staff augmentees for Peace Support Operations (PSOs) by examining the wide ranging legal issues underpinning PSO mandates and mission design which shape and govern the conduct of operations of the deployed force

The course is designed for the following personnel: civilian and military staff augmentees to PSOs, planning staffs and their advisors; personnel who work in or with ministries of defence, foreign affairs, interior, or law enforcement; personnel working in international organisations, non-governmental organisations etc and/or missions of the UN and any of the regional organisations.

The Academies Competition provides teams of 3 Officer Cadets from the top military academies from around the world with an early appreciation of the critical importance of humanitarian law in multi-national military operations. 1st Legal Delivery of Effects Online Course (English)

The delivery of effect is fundamental to all military operations as it is the means to achieve the objectives. The course will consider the ways in which effects are delivered in accordance with the law through targeting, Rules of Engagement (ROE) and the use of cyber capability. In doing so it will examine the processes involved and the way the law impacts upon these. Sanremo is one of the few places where training in targeting and ROE is delivered in an unclassified forum.
