The “Sanremo Call to Action for International Humanitarian Law” represents the outcome of the impactful exchange held during the 48th Sanremo Round Table on Current Issues of IHL. The Call to Action (CTA) condenses, for the very first time, three days of intensive and constructive dialogue into a shared commitment to act.
Rooted in the insights and recommendations provided by experts during the Round Table, the CTA seeks to translate reflections into concrete measures that reinforce humanitarian protection and uphold the enduring principles of IHL. Bringing together the main outcomes of this year’s discussions, the document addresses key contemporary challenges, including the development and dissemination of IHL, humanitarian disarmament, the value of IHL compliance and post-conflict accountability for advancing peace processes, naval warfare, and IHL challenges related to cyber operations and new methods of warfare.
More than just a summary of deliberations, the Sanremo Call to Action seeks to represent a shared commitment to turn knowledge into practical action, reaffirming Sanremo’s role as an open and neutral space for the study, dissemination, and development of law and practice.
