16thCourse on the Law of Internal Displacement

The courses on the Law on Internal Displacement is organized by the International Institute for Humanitarian Law in cooperation with the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons
The courses is designed for government officials and NGOs personnel responsible for and dealing with IDPs issues. The courses last five days and are conducted in English and in french. The courses responds to the increasing demand for up-to-date information on and understanding of internal displacement and the applicable law. It includes lectures, case studies, simulations, and practical exercises led by experts. Objectives of the course are:
- Increase the participants’ understanding of the international norms under-pinning the protection of internally displaced persons;
- Encourage the sharing of experiences among the participants regarding international implementation and monitoring mechanisms;
- Promote the use and implementation of the Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement;
- And encourage governments to establish or improve existing legislation and policies on the protection of internally displaced persons.
At the end of the course the participants should be able to identify the IDPs’ rights and the corresponding obligations that governments and other involved actors have; identify policy needs and gaps for an appropriate IDPs response; propose national mechanisms both for implementing the protection of IDPs and for monitoring; and draw up a national action plan for legislation and policy implementation according to the national framework.
All participants attending the course in full will receive the corresponding certificate.
Administrative information
Participation quota amounts to € 900. It must be remitted before the start of the course by bank transfer or, at the latest, upon arrival in cash or Euro currency cheque. Visa and/or Mastercard are also accepted either on the website or at the Institute. Deadline to subscribe 1 May 2019 with a request of scholarship and 17 May without a request of scholarship.
