The Special Projects Department of the Institute develops complementary activities supporting its statutory mission of promoting IHL and all its related fields to a varied public of practitioners and academics. Priority projects and initiatives include the Sanremo Summer School on IHL, the “Proyectos Especiales y Actividades de Capacitación para Latinoamérica”, Diplôme Universitaire en Droit International Humanitaire, a series of advanced thematic courses and a selection of EU-funded projects.

Thematic Courses
Through its Special Projects Department, the Institute offers a series of thematic courses focusing on specific aspects of the application of IHL, Human Rights, and many other related bodies of law applicable in humanitarian crises. These advanced programmes are addressed to civilian and military practitioners who need to delve further into the challenges of implementing international rules and principles in extremely challenging contexts.
