Background

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law is an independent, non-profit, humanitarian association founded in 1970 in Sanremo, Italy. The Institute organizes training courses in the fields of international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law and related issues and promotes dialogue by organizing international conferences, meetings and seminars of high-level government officials, scholars and practitioners.

The mission of the Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law is to enhance the knowledge and skills of government officials, international organizations, civil society representatives, and academics involved in working with individuals in need of protection, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless individuals, and migrants. Through its capacity-building initiatives and the exchange of experiences, the Department advocates for the preservation of human rights, thus complementing and augmenting the efforts of various stakeholders in the field of protection.

The Institute enjoys a consultative status at ECOSOC, a participatory status at the Council of Europe and holds observer status at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ExCom, and with the International Organization for Migration.

Role and functions

Junior Collaborator is a junior professional role and will be responsible for supporting overall course development and organization, including management of online learning tools, research, data, and legal analysis.

The Junior Collaborator role (Young Talent Program) is designed to nurture and develop the potential of young professionals with 0-2 years of experience. The aim of the role is to provide opportunities for young talents to gain practical experience, enhance their skills and prepare them for senior roles at the Institute.

The main functions are as follows:

• Contribute to the management of the Online Learning Platform;
• Assist in organizational and logistical tasks for the preparation and implementation of the online courses;
• Assist in the administrative and technical processes of the activities and tailored initiatives of the Unit;
• Support facilitators and participants on the online learning tools used for the online courses, such as Zoom for Education, Moodle, Canva and Articulate 360;
• Contribute to the research, design, and preparation of modules and learning sessions;
• Support with the graphic design of the Department’s learning products and media communication;
• Support in any translations needed (e.g. correspondence with participants, course content, broadcasts);
• Support in the development of internal documents, such as Standard Operating Procedures;
• Conduct any other tasks deemed necessary to achieve the Department’s objectives.

Required qualifications and experience

• Studies in Educational Science, Training for Adults, Digital Learning and other related fields;
• Knowledge of international law related to the protection of displaced and stateless persons is an asset;
• Demonstrated experience and skills in Digital tools: Canva, Zoom for Education, Moodle and Articulate 360;
• Strong organizational and planning skills;
• Attention to detail and accuracy;

Language requirements

• Fluency in English (both oral and written);
• Knowledge of other UN languages (i.e., French, Spanish, Arabic) is an asset.
