On Friday, June 7, at Villa Ormond, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Principality of Monaco met with General Giorgio Battisti, President of the Institute, Secretary General a.i., Mr. Gian Luca Beruto, and the leadership of the Military Department, including its Director, British Colonel Nigel Heppenstall, and Deputy-Director, French Colonel Rudolph Stamminger.
The discussion centered on the application of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the current global context and emphasised the critical importance of respecting IHL rules and principles to protect the most vulnerable populations affected by armed conflict all over the world. Both institutions thus underscored the necessity of widely and comprehensively disseminating IHL principles and rules.
In this framework, reaffirming its commitment to the principles of the Geneva Conventions, the Monaco Government renewed its support for the activities of the Institute by signing a new agreement (following the one already signed in 2020) valid until December 31, 2025. The resulting consolidated partnership aims to strengthen the shared mission and joint effort of Monaco and the IIHL to promote and uphold humanitarian principles worldwide.
