24 – 28 March 2025, Sanremo (Italy)
INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AND LAW OF ARMED CONFLICT
23rd Competition on IHL for Military Academies
The International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) will hold its Competition for Military Academies from 18 to 22 March 2024. Its main goal is to introduce Military Academy Cadets to the Law of Armed Conflict and foster international understanding between those who will shortly be joining the sisterhood and brotherhood of arms.
Overall objectives
The Competition will be a military exercise which provides teams of 3 Officer Cadets from military academies from around the world with an early appreciation of the critical importance of operational legal issues in the single service, national and joint multi-national military operations. The issues they will be expected to consider and advise upon are based on real operations and represent current challenges and thinking.
This is not an academic mooting competition in IHL, but a uniquely military exercise designed to expose our military commanders of the future to the importance of LOAC in joint multi-national operations in a truly international environment. It will provide them with an unforgettable experience they will retain throughout their careers.
