On Tuesday, 27th February, the President of the Institute, General (rtd.) Giorgio Battisti, and the Secretary-General a.i. Mr. Gian Luca Beruto met in Geneva the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Ms Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
During the visit, General Battisti had the opportunity to discuss with Ms Spoljaric the state of the existing collaborations between the Sanremo Institute and the ICRC, also examining future perspectives and possible synergies in the fields of training and dissemination of IHL.
The visit was further relevant to discuss with Professor Nils Melzer, ICRC Director of International Law, Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy, and other important ICRC officers the details of the 47th Sanremo Round Table on current issues of IHL.
This year, the annual Round Table will take place on 12-13 September and will address the relevance of the Fourth Geneva Conventions in contemporary armed conflicts, marking their 75th anniversary.
